Dr. Richard Rattay is a board‑certified orthopedic surgeon with advanced fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Surgery of the Hand.
Dr. Rattay completed his Orthopedic Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery fellowship at the University of Minnesota, along with advanced training in Microvascular Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Missouri in Kansas City and earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City.
He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Due to his specialized expertise, Dr. Rattay frequently receives referrals for complex hand and wrist conditions.
Dr. Rattay knew from a young age that he wanted to become a physician, driven by a fascination with anatomy and the intricate function of bones, muscles, joints, tendons, and nerves. He values the diagnostic process and finds great fulfillment in helping patients regain function and improve their quality of life.
Originally from Mason City, Dr. Rattay prioritizes building personal connections with each patient. He approaches every individual with an open mind, striving to understand both their physical and emotional needs.
