Cardiac stress testing is performed to evaluate arterial blood flow to the heart muscle during physical exercise, compared to blood flow while at rest. This is an established method of investigating moderate-risk patients for coronary artery disease. Some of the stress tests are performed on a treadmill while others utilize pharmaceutical agents in place of physical exercise to achieve cardiac stress.

The four different types of stress tests offered at RHSHC include:

  • GXT
  • Stress echocardiogram
  • Nuclear stress tests
  • Cardiolyte stress tests
