Open 24 Hours a Day, 7 Days a Week
The RHSHC Emergency Services Team is committed to providing personalized, professional, and compassionate care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our staff is trained in:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP)
- Pediatric Life Support (PALS)
- Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC)
Certified as a Community Trauma Care Facility (Level IV), RHSHC Emergency Services has the resources to provide initial stabilization for all trauma patients while preparing the patient for transfer, if needed.
The RHS Emergency Department is equipped to serve patients of all ages. In 2023, we were the fourth hospital in the state to be recognized through the state’s new Iowa Pediatric Emergency Assessment and Care (IPEAC) Recognition Program. This recognition ensures the emergency department is prepared to provide initial stabilization, treatment, and any needed transfers to definitive care for ill and injured children.
The RHS Emergency Department utilizes Avel eEmergency, which offers a two-way video feed to cyber link providers in Cresco to board-certified emergency physicians, specialty physicians, and seasoned emergency nurses based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. eEmergency helps staff at RHSHC to be decisive, effective, and have more time to provide direct patient care. The system provides a medical opinion and assistance from an additional licensed physician with phone calls, documentation, or patient transfer; freeing up RHSHC staff to focus on direct patient care.
The RHSHC Ambulance Department is staffed with critical care paramedics, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and emergency services drivers who are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These services provide emergency care and transport for patients of all ages. With stations in Cresco and Elma, our ambulances are equipped to treat a wide range of injuries and illnesses. In case of emergency, please call 911.
S.A.N.E. (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners)
Abuse can happen to anyone at any time. RHSHC employs multiple Registered Nurses who are specially trained as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (S.A.N.E.). They are trained specifically to work with sexual assault victims while maintaining compassion and confidentiality. Our team partners with Riverview Center of Decorah for advocacy services and, if needed, law enforcement, to provide optimal care and support. For additional resources, visit www.riverviewcenter.org.
If you or a loved one has suffered personal injury from a violent crime, the Crime Victim Compensation Program may be able to help. The program helps victims with certain out-of-pocket expenses related to injuries from violent crime.
