We use the Blomdahl Ear Piercing system, a medical-grade device available exclusively to healthcare professionals. Combined with the privacy of a medical exam room and strict sterile procedures, this approach helps ensure a reassuring experience for both parents and children. We also provide a variety of medical-grade earrings designed to support proper healing and reduce the risk of developing a nickel allergy. • Where do we pierce?
  • We currently only pierce ear lobes.

• Are there age restrictions?
  • At the Cresco Medical Clinic, our medical professionals typically offer ear piercing for infants between 3 and 9 months of age, children ages 5 and older, and adults.
    This timing helps ensure that infants have received their first set of immunizations and that their earlobes are developed enough for accurate placement. During the procedure, infants are held in a parent’s arms. The most challenging part is keeping their heads still, and most babies only cry briefly.
  • After 9 months, children tend to be more active, which can make the procedure more difficult. They are also more likely to touch or pull at their earrings, increasing the risk of irritation or infection.
  • For children age 5 and older,
    • It is important that the child wants to have their ears pierced and that a parent or guardian provides consent. The child should be able to sit still during the procedure and participate in proper aftercare to support healing. Younger children will sit next to and lean on their parents, while teens are typically able to sit independently.
    • Because ear piercing is an elective cosmetic service, we do not restrain children. Our staff may choose to postpone the procedure if a child is unable to cooperate safely.
    • For added comfort and flexibility, we offer the option to pierce one ear at a time or both ears simultaneously.

• How much does it cost?
  • We charge $100 to pierce both ears. The price includes medical grade plastic or titanium stud earrings, the cost of the procedure, and aftercare materials.
  • Payment is due in full when you check in for your ear piercing appointment. Since this is a cosmetic procedure, it is not covered by insurance and will not be billed to your insurance.

• Do I need an appointment?

• How do I take care of the pierced ears afterwards? 
• • • At Cresco Medical Clinic, you will receive detailed aftercare instructions during your visit to help ensure proper healing.
      • Always wash your hands before touching your ears.
      • Clean both sides of your newly pierced ears thoroughly twice a day without removing the earrings. When showering or washing your hair, use a mild liquid soap and rinse well with clean, running water. Gently dry the area with a tissue or cotton swab.
      • For additional care, we recommend using Blomdahl Piercing Aftercare cleansing swabs. These are gentle on the skin and allow you to clean around the earrings and backing effectively. Let the area air dry and use a fresh swab for each ear every time. Avoid using alcohol, as it can irritate the skin.
      • Keep the piercing area clean, dry, and exposed to air as much as possible. When applying products like makeup, hairspray, perfume, or hair dye, be sure to cover your ears. Take care when putting on or removing clothing over your head to prevent snagging the earrings.
      • After about six weeks, you may switch to different earrings.
        • The Blomdahl piercing studs used at Cresco Medical Clinic are slightly thicker than standard posts, which helps create a well-formed piercing. This makes it easier to change earrings after healing and reduces the chance of irritation or injury when inserting new earrings.
          These earrings also feature longer posts to allow for better airflow, supporting the healing process. The backs are designed to fully cover the tip of the post while still allowing air circulation behind the earlobe, helping keep the earrings secure and comfortable.

• What are the risks?
  • Anytime the skin is pierced, there is a small risk of infection. At Cresco Medical Clinic, we take important steps to minimize this risk by:
    • Using sterile, single-use piercing equipment
    • Providing clear, detailed aftercare instructions
    • There is a risk of bleeding anytime the skin is broken. However, the earlobes do not contain significant blood vessels, so this risk is minimal
    • The pain is brief and similar to a vaccine. Ask us about using numbing spray.
    • Keloids are large, raised scars. Risk factors for keloids include:
      • Family history of keloids
      • Darker skin pigmentation
      • Age > 11 years
